Lethal Fright’s story commences back in 1996, and it was just a name. Just like many of his close friends, Douglas Arruda, the founding member, was conceiving the idea of having a band to write his own songs. Considered a few names like "Silver Cross". That changed when he saw a book of horror stories, brought by a friend at school. The name "Lethal Fright" was inspired from it.
The band Lethal Fright was formed in 2003, in São Luis, MA, Brazil. Douglas Arruda was looking for musicians and let with the singer Wilson Privado, who was looking to reform his previous band, Crânio. They joined forces and Lethal Fright debuted in May 7th 2004 as opening act to Shaman (a band founded by ex-Angra musicians, like late Brazilian singer André Matos). The band was mostly playing cover songs.
Lethal Fright changed formation a few times, leaving the founder Douglas Arruda (bass) as the only original band member. The guitarist Nunes Italiano joined late 2004, and the band's style also changed. Lethal Fright incorporated keyboards and shifted towards prog metal. Lethal Fright played at several local festivals and opening to other Brazilian bands. Lethal Fright disbanded in 2005, ending activities.
The Comeback
Much later, in 2017, Douglas Arruda started working his unfinished songs for a future EP. In January 2019, he met with Andria Busic (Dr. Sin), one of his music heroes, who offered help with the production. Lethal Fright released two singles in 2019: Braves Gonna Roll and I am Not Done with Your Story. Douglas Arruda played all instruments and vocals, except the drums that recorded by Ivan Busic (Dr. Sin). The plan was to release an EP with 6 songs in 2020, but the pandemics affected the schedule and the plans evolved to a full-length, which the release was delayed to mid 2021.
During the later stages of the production, the guitarist Nunes Italiano does a comeback to Lethal Fright, recording on 3 songs. In addition, he contributed on two other singles with songs that did not made to the album: What’s Next, released in Feb 2021; and Monster We Make, released in April 2021 and featuring Derek Sherinian (Sons of Apollo, ex-Dream Theater) and Jonas Schütz (Sacrosanct, Sapiency).
With the production of Andria Busic, Lethal Fright releases their first record “Past Trough the Future (The Desert)” in June 30th, 1981 - also celebrating Douglas’ 40th birthday. This album was highly acclaimed by featuring an incredible team of special guests like Derek Sherinian (Sons of Apollo, ex-Dream Theater), Aquiles Priester (Edu Falaschi, Hangar, ex-Angra), Dirk Verbeuren (Megadeth, ex-Soilwork), Milan Polak, Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal (Sons of Apollo, ex-GNR), Andria Busic (Dr. Sin) & Ivan Busic (Dr. Sin). The album Past Trough the Future (The Desert) brings a solid and allegorical journey with different styles. All songs were written by Douglas Arruda and a few singles were released from it: My Pride My Hell, released in July 2021, Aquatic Trees in August 2021 and Generations in December 2021. The band also released it first music video in collaboration with Andria Busic and Ivan Busic from Dr. Sin.
In February 2022 the band released a new single called Low Frequencies, featuring Blaze Bayley (ex-Iron Maiden), also with a music video. This new song will take part of the next album, called “LF-MMXX”. The next album is set to cement Lethal Fright as one of the recognized names among the Brazilian bands, further elaborating on its diverse proposal and prog metal influences.
Lethal Fright is planning to release their next album "LF-MMXX" sometime in 2023.
